An AC charger is always coupled with a built-in setup with an AC charging infrastructure, known as the onboard charger. The role of an onboard charger is energy conversion from AC to DC and supply the current to the heart of the EV, i.e. the battery pack. AC charging also referred to as ‘Slow Charging’ is the most common form of charging due to the high charging point availability and ease of installation. AC chargers can be installed at home (type 1) or are readily present at the EV charging stations (type 2). A range anywhere between 22kW-43kW per km/h is achieved with fast AC chargers.
